Ark Nova

Lucerne Festival hired me to document their concert series inside Ark Nova. An inflatable concert hall designed by Anish Kapoor and Arata Isozaki. Purple membrane that rises from the ground, holds five hundred people, then moves on. The structure was built after the 2011 earthquake in Japan, a venue that could appear where permanent buildings couldn't. No foundation. Just air pressure holding space for music. I spent the residency shooting the performances. Igor Levit at piano. Vienna Philharmonic chamber players. Michael Häfliger playing cowbell in his final appearance as festival director. A Bachata dance workshop that turned the curved interior into motion blur. Sunrise concerts at seven in the morning with the membrane catching Alpine light. The images document what happened inside temporary architecture before it disappeared.
